Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from March of that year.

Success also signifies he has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to force a decider.

He rescued 4 initial chances in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
