The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show approaches, you'll find a clamor for introducing fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types actually cover many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely that year
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
